Wearing a custom fitted orthodontic mouthguard is the easiest way to protect your teeth and braces against injury during contact sports

The Australian Dental Association advocates the use of mouthguards during both matches and training. Mouthguards are very important to protect your adult teeth against injury as we only get one set of them!

Mouthguards during braces are even more important to protect the lips and cheeks from contact with the wires. At Westside Orthodontics Toowoomba we recommend a ‘Boil-and-Bite’ mouthguard during the first 4 months of treatment. These can be moulded in hot water and reshaped regularly to fit your moving teeth during the initial stages of orthodontic treatment. Thereafter, once your teeth are relatively straight, we recommend a ‘Precision-Fitted’ orthodontic mouthguard. These are custom made here at the clinic to perfectly encompass your braces and protect your teeth.
